Ustadha Shamira is a California-born educator and scholar passionate about empowering Muslim women to grow in sacred knowledge, spiritual strength, and closeness to Allah ﷻ. After graduating as valedictorian, she began her global journey of Islamic studies, training under scholars across South Africa, the UK, and Syria—where she received an ijāzah in Tajwīd from Shaykh Ḥasan al-Kurdī. She completed the five-year ‘alimah program at Ja’mia Al-Imam Muhammad Zakariyya and later earned a Master’s in Demographics and Social Analysis from UC Irvine. A certified birth doula and lactation educator, she specializes in Hanafi fiqh for women—especially rulings around menstruation, childbirth, and postpartum—and weaves Islamic spirituality into all her teaching. A mother of five, she offers classes, consultations, and spiritual support to help women thrive in faith and life. Ustadha Shamira co-founded the Rahmah Foundation and teaches for Nur al Iman, a full-time shariah program for girls and women in the Bay Area. She walks this path of sacred learning with you—not just as a teacher, but as a sister who believes in your ability to rise, reconnect, and find your own nearness to Allah.

“Alhamdulillah, Ustadha Shamira is one of the best teachers I’ve ever had. Her teaching style is wonderful — it helped me remember what I learned and made even complex topics easy to understand. She also showed us how to apply fiqh in our daily lives, which made it so practical and relevant. Everything was amazing, alhamdulillah! JazakAllahu khayran for all your efforts, Ustadha Shamira. May Allah reward you immensely. Ameen!”

“Assalamu alaykom dear Ustadha Shamira! I continue to benefit from your classes, masha’Allah. Your love for the deen and your passion for teaching are truly contagious. One thing you taught me—me, a sixty-three-year-old aunty!—is to be mindful of my wudu. I’ll never forget the story of the little boy in Mauritania and his gheera for the deen. Now I always remember to wash the back of my ankles properly. I listen to your classes over and over and never get tired. May Allah reward you greatly!”

Ieman Hassan (63 years old)

“Ustadah Shamira is an amazing teacher. She speaks very passionately about the deen which we follow. Ustadah Shamira's teaching is sure to engage everyone, children and adults, no matter the subject. She is very kind, and most eager to answer any questions. I am very fortunate to learn with her. ”

Amani (14 years old)

“I really enjoyed having Ustadha Shamira as a teacher, she explains everything very well and I liked the way she formatted our exams. Jazakillah khayr”

Safaa (14 years old)

“Ustadha Shamira’s delivery is clear and organized. Traditional etiquette and adab of seeking knowledge are taught organically, and she incorporates spiritual reflections throughout. I would recommend any women who haven’t studied this subject, or who would like a refresher, to join Ustadha Shamira’s class. It’s rare to find female teachers, especially those who teach the fiqh women’s issues according to the Hanafi school of thought.”
